Class Rules and Procedures

Rules and Procedures are important for our class to flow smoothly.  If you do not adhere to these rules, you will lose valuable class time.  You also may cause your class to lose this time to.  How? If I have to stop and correct you, time is lost.

1. The only times you should speak is if I ask you a question, or you raise your hand and are given permission to speak, or you are doing partner/group work.  That means you will come into the room silently each day, get seated immediately, and begin your Do Now task that will be on the board.

2.  Do Now - You may put Monday through Friday’s Do Nows on the same sheet of paper.  Each day I will make note of who is or isn’t attempting the task.  20 points will be deducted if you aren’t putting forth a good effort. On Fridays I will total up your weekly Do Now points and enter it into the grade book.  (100 points total)

3.  Once we have gone over the Do Now, we will immediately begin the day’s lesson.  You need be organized for class to flow smoothly.  You need loose-leaf paper, a one-inch 3-ring binder for my class with four tab dividers.  The tabs should be labeled:  Do Now, Notes, Novel, and Activities

4.  You must always have paper and a pencil in class.  You can’t do your job as a student if you don’t have these tools. $3 Indian Bucks will be deducted if you don’t have your necessary tools.

Raise your hand to speak.

Raise your pencil if it needs sharpening.

Raise one hand and touch your nose with the other  hand if you need tissue.

You must remained seated at all times unless I ask you  to move or you get permission from me to be

out of your seat.

When answering questions that are on the board, you only have to write the questions if I tell you to do so.

Do not apply cologne, body spray, or scented lotion in the classroom.  It can trigger migraines, asthma, and allergic reactions.

Do not beat or tap your pencil. It is distracting for others.

If you have the sniffles, use tissue. Do not sniff. It is distracting for others.

Restroom Policy - Class time is the wrong time to go to the restroom.  The right time is between classes and at lunch. However, you may go to the restroom/water fountain ONCE per week for “free”.  (This includes splashing water on your face.) The second trip that week will result in the loss of $3 Indian Bucks.  The third trip will earn you Behavior Training.  No one will go to the restroom during instructional time (when I’m talking).  You may only go during activity time (when you’re working).

Hall Traffic Log -To enter the hall during class, you need a vest.

red = office (or another teacher’s class)

    blue = library

    yellow/orange = restroom/water fountain

You need to sign out on the log with your name, your destination, and the time you leave. You need to sign in when you return with the time. There is a digital watch above the hall log.

Class Dismissal - The bell does not dismiss you.  I do.  Remain seated.   I will call you by rows to leave the classroom.  You will line up outside Ms. Lonsdale’s door.  You will be single-file and quiet while waiting to enter her classroom.
